The Florida Funders team is growing, and we’re excited to welcome another addition, Jake Felman, as our new Director of Legal. Jake’s experience on the legal side of commercial businesses, knowledge of the tech space, and established footprint in Tampa will make him an invaluable asset to the Florida Funders team.

Get to know Jake and his background and learn what he’s most looking forward to as a new member of the Florida Funders team.

Background

Jake joins us from cybersecurity firm Reliaquest and has prior experience at Tampa-based law firm Trenam Law. He worked in the business law space in both of these previous roles. Jake holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Enterprise Management from Wake Forest University and a juris doctor from the University of Florida.

His background showcases his expertise in the tech and commercial law sectors and his familiarity with the Tampa innovation ecosystem, which aligns seamlessly with Florida Funders’ work.

Interests and Strengths

Jake shared that he’s always been naturally interested in startups. “I think it relates back to my interest in seeing things grow from nothing to something special and helping bring value where I can,” he said. We’re excited to have him on board to support our portfolio companies and contribute to the innovation we’re building in Florida, the Southeast, and beyond.

When asked about his career superpower, Jake described himself as a “shapeshifter.” He enjoys handling various tasks and thrives in situations requiring multitasking and adaptability. In our fast-paced work environment, where we handle everything from meticulous business vetting to term sheet creation and investor relations, Jake’s versatility and resilience will prove indispensable.

Outside of Work

Outside of work, Jake is a natural creator and problem solver. He enjoys building and fixing things around the house, putting his mind to a challenge and working on it until he’s successful. Jake also loves spending time with his family and watching or playing sports. He even completed his first triathlon this year!
